Although Madeira Carnival is one of the most traditional in the country, you may be surprised to know that samba troupes with thousands of members take part as well. Carnival is about fantasy and no figure or costume is out of place. People surge onto the streets of Funchal to celebrate the annual Madeira Carnival.
The main street parade takes place on the evening of Carnival Saturday, with plenty of music, dancing and floats, as well as decorations in streets and hotels.
Groups with thousands of participants flood the main streets of Funchal with music and contagious enjoyment.
This is a week of healthy madness that invades the town, turning it into a permanent party. In an atmosphere of effusive revelry there are surprising examples of creativity and imagination and there is no shortage of daring caricatures in the Fun Parade - Cortejo Trapalhão, on Shrove Tuesday.

The evening will start with a cocktail in the Lounge and then on to “The Dining Room” for a delightful buffet and Champagne.
