Botanical & Flower Painting Master Class

Study botanical watercolour painting with one of the UK’s top botanical artists, Siriol Sherlock, in the wonderful setting of Reid's Palace in Madeira with its sub-tropical garden full of rare and exotic plants. 

Siriol Sherlock has been painting plants for over 30 years. She has been awarded four RHS Gold Medals for her own botanical artwork and served on the Picture Committee of the RHS for many years. She has written two award-winning books on the subject and tutored many courses including the Orient Express Botanical Art painting classes. She has a wonderfully fresh and inspirational approach to the subject and uses a very direct and quick ‘wet in wet’ watercolour technique to create superb plant studies which are both fluid and accurate. 

Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced artist wishing to try new techniques, Siriol will give plenty of personal tuition and tailor the course to suit the different levels and abilities of each student. This course would be especially useful for anyone who struggles to create fresh, translucent watercolour paintings which are not dull or over-worked.

The course will include the following aspects of Botanical Art:

* Constructing accurate plant drawings and improving drawing and observation skills. 
* Learning and perfecting watercolour techniques to produce fresh, vibrant and translucent watercolours. 
* Mixing colours. 
* Composition and design. 
* Painting detailed botanical illustrations in watercolour. 
* Painting fast, free and expressive impressions of flowers. 
* Painting watercolour sketches 'in the field' at Monte Gardens and in the hotel gardens.

Class programme includes:

* Painting classes with tutor in “Bridge Room” - Tuesday April 27 –Saturday May 01 (5 days) 
* Arrival and departure transfer with Reid’s assistance 
* Daily Buffet lunch at the “Pool Restaurant”, including soft drinks or picnic (as outlined in programme) 
* Farewell Dinner in the “Dining Room” including beverages 
* Visit to Arcos St Jorge Rose Garden and easy levada walk 
* Morning tour to Monte Gardens with cable car

Students booking both the Botancial Flower Painting Class and Designing with Plants Master Class will recieve a 15% discount of the class cost.

Students are welcome to bring partners who do not participate in the Class.  They can join students for meals and excursions (as outlined above) at a cost of €390.00 per person.
