Hotel Monasterio

Cusco was believed by the Inca's to be the navel of the world. Nestled in a ring of snow-capped Andean mountains at 11,000 ft, you will feel also that it is the top of the world!

In the heart of this city of the Children of the Sun, you will find the Hotel Monasterio. Originally built as a Monastery in 1595 on the site of the palace of the Inca Amaru Qhala, it was converted into a hotel in 1995.

Today it is synonymous with history, luxury, elegance and other-worldly charm. It still retains its distinctive character with the original stone cloisters surrounding an enchanting, sunny courtyard with a soft fountain and a centerpiece of a 300 year-old Cedar tree.

Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge
The ancient citadel of Machu Picchu, one of the World's most important heritage sites was hidden from the conquistadors and undiscovered until 1911. Situated high in the Andes, it is a place of unforgettable sunrises and magical, moonlit nights. Set in its own gardens and overlooking the ruins themselves, the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge is the place to stay in Machu Picchu.

Example Itinerary

Day 1:
Private arrival and check-in will be in the exquisite Chapel of San Antonio Abad. Guests will be served the traditional coca tea as a welcome drink (and aid to altitude acclimatization), before being personally escorted to their guestrooms where their luggage will be waiting for them.

We highly recommend taking the rest of the day at a very easy pace to acclimate to the altitude!

Welcome Reception and Dinner
Drinks in the Lobby followed by dinner in the Restaurant Tupay which features local entertainment nightly.

We recommend you try a combination menu of International and Peruvial cuisine with two to three choices for each course. We would like to offer each guest a Pisco Sour or a Coca Sour - Peruvian specialty cocktails to accompany the entrée.

Day 2:
In the morning, explore the fascinating city of Cusco with a guide: Visit Loreto Alley with its remarkable Inca walls, the Santo Domingo Monastery and the legendary Koricancha. The quaint district of San Glas, the fascinating Inca Museum and the beautiful Church of La Merced are also well worth a visit.

Return to the Hotel Monasterio for a light lunch around the charming fountain in the main patio. Early afternoon at leisure to wander the picturesque cobbled streets of Cusco, take in the scene in the Plaza de Armas or simply to relax until the late afternoon excursion.

Walk/drive up to the ancient fortress of Sacsayhuaman located above the city of Cusco and with splendid views overlooking the city and surrounding countryside. Explore the ruins which are spectacular in the sunset and when the sun has set and the lights of Cusco come out, enjoy an exotic Inca Cocktail in a secluded area of the ruins. We have requested the services of a Shaman to perform a traditional ceremony accompanied by music. This is a unique event. Continue the evening with dinner at leisure in the Hotel, or alternatively dine in one of the local restaurants with views onto the Plaza de Armas.

Day 3:
Early rise to catch the train to Machu Picchu. Have a champagne breakfast on board and enjoy the three-hour journey, which takes you through some dramatic landscape changes from the high plateau of Chincheros through the impressive Urubamba River Canyon to the incredible slopes of the Vilcabamba Mountains.

Check-in and welcome drink in the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. Personal escort to the guestrooms followed by a private lunch in the gardens with views of the ruins and the Sacred Mountain. Afterwards, a guided tour of the ruins.
At leisure or as a group, enjoy dinner in the Hotel Restaurant.

Day 4:
For those who enjoy rising early, the Ruins are especially beautiful at dawn! After breakfast, explore the Ruins further or climb up Huayna Picchu to experience one of the best views in the world!
Early lunch and descend the mountain for your charter helicopter flight back to Cusco and the Hotel Monasterio. The afternoon is free for shopping.

The evening starts with a Silver Spoon Cocktail in the Hotel Chapel of San Antonio Abad, complete with harpist and candles. From there, proceed to the fireplace of the Lobby where your dining table has been set up for the Gala Dinner, with a Peruvian Creole entertainment throughout dinner and for dancing afterward.
